Sharing Leadership

Sharing leadership opportunities is a great way to keep the energy of a group moving. Ideally a group will have several people taking turns guiding an event. The level of group interest and personal involvement stays high and the energy can remain open and flowing. Everyone has a unique style and personality. When we take turns sharing our individual gifts with the group, we strengthen and empower one another. Like potluck suppers, where every one brings a dish, rituals that are co-created by the members of the group have more gusto!

Have a meeting ahead of time with those who want to participate. Decide on the activities, songs, chants, and rituals that appeal and are appropriate for the celebration. Arrange them in an order that makes sense to you. (You can follow some of our our suggestions, adding or remove items as you wish.) People can now choose which activities they are most comfortable leading. This is a simple but sure way to create a meaningful event.

Leadership

There are times when it is more convenient or appropriate for a single person to plan and lead a ritual. Taking responsibility for envisioning and organizing an event can be a gift to others who are too busy to meet ahead of time. A third option is for there to be no plan, no leader or leaders at all! Simply gather together and see what happens.
